As drum major of the Sunrisers in 1977 and 1978 (and again briefly in 1980),
Tom was a leader in every sense of the word, and a great conductor to boot.
He was a well-known DCA personality when he joined the Sunrisers
(having served as drum major of the Connecticut Hurricanes for a number of years),
and his upbeat demeanor helped the Sunrisers “connect” with audiences as the
corps drove its way to its first two DCA championship wins. Tom was soft-spoken,
but had the respect of every member of the corps; when he spoke out, we all listened.
