Michelle (Calogianes) Monturo joined the Sunrisers in 1976 as one of the first group of members from New Jersey who became known as the Jersey Crew, and marched through the 1984 season. She was an excellent mellophone player and is perhaps best known for her solo work in the corps' "Legend of the One-Eyed Sailor" concert number in the early 1980s.

Michelle also was a leader off the field for the Sunrisers. She spearheaded the efforts to make new uniform tops for the corps for the 1980 season, and again for the 1981 season. The '81 uniform top, the orange tunic, quickly became a classic look for the corps.
