Fran Haring

Fran came to the Sunrisers in 1977 following in his brother Lenny’s footsteps and was also influenced by John (aka “Screech”) Arietano.

Being a part of the famous French horn line, Fran was always the “Master of ceremonies” be it the annual dinner dance or a simple post rehearsal parking lot gathering. Fran as many of us know would always keep us entertained. A loyal and true Sunriser, Fran served through 3 Championships and departed the corps after 1982 to pursue his career in Radio news.

Through his time with Sun and even after, Fran served us well as the corps Public Relations Director and handled show write-ups, press releases, communications with other corps and with the DCA. Fran went on to secure his position as a radio newscaster in NJ and later Baltimore and was able to devote the time that remained to helping DCA in an administrative position but always went out of his way to assist the corps in any way he could. He would create beautiful write ups to inspire the corps at DCA time each year along with showing up to help out whenever and wherever possible. The many things he has done for us have amounted to a lot over these 33 years and it is time to recognize this individual. To many of us in the corps we considered him a DCA staff member who was a Sunriser. To the DCA community they always know him as a Sunriser on the DCA staff. In either case Fran and his wife Barbara have devoted the vast majority of their lives to senior drum corps and throughout this time Fran has been and will always be a Sunriser.

For these reasons and many others too numerous to mention, we herby bestow the Sunrisers' highest honor and induct Fran Haring into the Sunrisers' Hall of Fame Class of 2010.
