My Years With The Sunrisers
  1998 - 2004     Soprano

Hello, my name is John Molloy. I marched in The Sunrisers from 1998 through 2004.

Somehow during that time period I also marched the Cadets of Bergen County in 2001, 2002, and 2003. Every year when I returned from the DCI tour, I went right back to the Orange and Blue and did whatever I could to help out and finish the DCA season. In 2001 it did not work out for SUN. But in 2002 (Mini Corps) and 2003 (Actual field show) it worked out much better.

Also when the corps folded in 2000 I went finished out the season with The Bushwackers.

My finest years in the Sunrisers were 1998 (as a 15 year old rookie), 1999 (Sunriser of the Year), and 2004 (Hornline MVP). Those were the years where I dedicated the most time to the organization. But the other years I also had a great time!

I also have been known to do a couple of shows with the Lambertville Volunteers here and there with John Ariantano, Danzon Buruschkin and company over the years.

This past year in 2005 things did not work out for me and SUN. Being a full time music student at Montclair State University, playing in many music ensembles besides SUN, and some personal problems led to my leaving of the corps in May of 2005. That was one of the toughest times of my entire life.

A week after leaving SUN I was called by The Santa Clara Vanguard and I was offered a position to teach the trumpet/brass section for them for the second half of the 2005 DCI season. It was an unexpected offer that I just could not refuse. So I ended up teaching there as a brass tech for half of the 2005 summer.

Upon returning from the 2005 DCI championships, I marched with the Hawthorne Caballeros for the last two weeks of the season, doing a favor for a couple of close friends.

Although I marched for a lot of other corps, I will never forget what The Sunrisers Drum and Bugle Corps was able to do for me as a musician and person. It’s where my marching and playing career all began. I am forever grateful for that.

I owe special thanks to Rich Guillen, Chris Healey, Robert Buzinkai, The Althouse family, The Yaworski Family, Gary Williams, Stan, Monica, Pat Surace, The Coppola Family, Milton Fitzgerald, Larry Visconti, John Clougher, Tom Willms, Joe Vala, Howie Sederquist (for allowing me to post all of this), Rick Roberts, Tom Pohl, George Petrunchio, Miguel Bolivar, Dana Cardinal, Bob Murphy, Fran Haring, Judy Foster, The Thompson’s, Andrew Burrows, Larry Carbonell, Glen Hazelwood, Tex, Derick Jerinksky, Kate Bolcar, Bob Villanova, Bob and Doreen, Jeff Mitchell, Chris Mignemi, John Ariantano, Danzon Buruschkin, Josh Cohen, Dan Schlosser, Rich Rauch, and Jack Alexandro.

I recently went to the alumni reunion for the Sunrisers on November 12, 2005. It was GREAT to see everyone there. Although I will not be a member of the Sunrisers or any other corps for the 2006 season, there is a spirit will exist in my heart, the fine individuals that attended the Alumni banquet, and many others...... A spirit that will be rooting for and believing in The Sunrisers for the upcoming season.

GOOD LUCK !!! GO FOR IT SUN !!!
