It seems like only yesterday - not almost 30 years since I left
the corps to join the NYPD. Those years were some of the best and
most exciting in my life - times I treasure and will never
forget. Do any oldtimers remember the time we stopped on the
Jersey TP on the way home from "somewhere" for a piss-call and
ran into the rock group "The Critters", and the neat time we had
BSin' with the band?
I attended a drum corps show out in Sayville for the Golden
Eagles preview show, and ran into some old friends I hadn't seen
in 30 years. I was told about the show by Bill Vonnes - a real
old friend who did juniors with me in the Bellmore
Thunderstreaks. Bill is retired from the NCPD on disability and
works for a chemical company. Still lives on LI. Just before the
show we ran into Ted Sasso and the inimitable Joe Coppola. Nice
to see I'm not the only guy to get bigger and turn gray! It was a
great time sitting with old friends and hearing how the "new
breed" sounded.
I retired from the NYPD in 1994 after 25 years. I was a Private
Investigator after that, and had to give it up in 1996 when I had
a triple bypass - the running around was a killer! After a year
off to recuperate, I started working for the NY Jets as a
security officer, where I work today. I have a 12 y/o son who is
started to express interest in playing a horn (hoo-ra!), and have
been married for 28 years as of 6/6/98.
Best of luck this year to the new members - keep up the
traditions!
Warmest regards,
Bruce
