In 1978, I met two wonderful people at an Islander game that would change my life,
Jimmie and Michelle Calogianes. The next day I was a Sunriser.
Soon afterward, I would leave work on a Friday, go home, pack and spend just about every weekend with them for about three years.
I miss them both, as well as all the other friends that were made through the years.
In 1983, Rose Cataneo tricked her roommate into giving her a ride to practice, sneaking her horn into her trunk and Gail became a member.
At the 1984 DCA Championships, I proposed to Gail on the field after our score was announced.
That was the end of our Sunriser days. We were married in 1986 and have three children.
Our oldest Dave, is 18, a Trumpet playing Eagle Scout, Kevin is 16, a Drummer, and Lisa is 9.
She is leaning toward trumpet.
Gail and I came out of retirement for the Once More in 94 – 27th Lancer Alumni Corps that did the
DCI exhibition in Foxboro, Massachusetts.
I still play at Boy Scout camp during the summer and Gail teaches our High School Guard.
We live in West Haven, CT. Every year the Sunrisers practice 100 yards from our house before the Hurks show.
We go down the street to see if there is anyone in the corps that we might know (not many.)
We hope to hear from all of you,
--- Matt & Gail
